The Austin Valkyries Women’s Rugby team is partnering with Voices of Youth, a Kenyan non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young women to stay in school. In Kenya, poor women and girls often lack access to sanitary pads and have no way to control the results of their periods. This means staying at home and missing school for an average of five days every month. Voices of Youth works with local women who hand-manufacture reusable menstrual pads. Voices of Youth then distributes these pads for free to poor village girls, thereby giving them control over their bodies and the ability to go to school every day. With a higher attendance at school, girls are able to keep up with their male peers and receive a quality education, thus decreasing their risk for domestic violence and continuing poverty.
The Valkyries are committed to raising $1,000 by the end of the year to help support the Voices of Youth program. By donating to our paypal account and designating your donation to Voices of Youth, you’ll be supporting a direct solution to Kenyan girls’ lack of education and continuing poverty. As little as $20 would support 7 girls for one year of supplies for reusable menstrual pads.
Please help the Valkyries spread the word about this project and support our efforts to provide opportunities for women worldwide.
If you have any questions about your donation, tax-exemptions, or have any other ideas about how to support this program, please email email@example.com.
So far we have raised $362 towards our $3,000 target! Thanks for all your support!
